Track Team Breaks Relay Record

I will admit it. Track is one of those sports that no one really cares about. Like football at Duke or basketball at Alabama, it just gets shuffled to the back of the deck, lost among the other big sports. But the Mississippi State track team is really on fire this year. They are currently in the race (no pun intended) for the 2009 NCAA Track and Field National Championship, with 11 athletes competing in 5 events. They are ranked 13th in this week's USTFCCCA poll.

So with that, the men's 4x100 relay team opened the championships with a time of 38.96 seconds to set a new MSU record. That advances them to the finals, which everyone can see on CBS this Friday at 6:15pm.

Here are the day 1 results:

Men's 4x100-Meter Relay Prelim
Leading Qualifier: Texas A&M, 38.51 seconds
MSU: 5. J.. Christian, D. Cherry, D. Mullings, J. Bailey, 38.96

Men's 100-Meter Dash Prelim
Leading Qualifier: Trindon Holiday, 10.00 seconds, LSU
MSU: 3. D'Angelo Cherry, 10.04 seconds

Men's 400-Meter Hurdles Prelim
Leading Qualifier: Lee Moore, 49.87 seconds, Mississippi
MSU: 14. Emanuel Mayers, 50.71 seconds
