Playing Catchup

I am back from my week-long vacation. We took a cruise to Mexico and also spent some time in New Orleans pre- and post-cruise. Looks like a lot happened in the world of Mississippi State sports while I was off the grid. This post is to catch all of you up as much as it is to catch me up. Here we go.

Star-divide

Dixon Arrested For DUI

The big news of the week was the arrest of Anthony Dixon. The senior running back was arrested for DUI, careless driving and no proof of insurance last Sunday night. It looks like Dixon might have to sit out a game as part of his punishment for the arrest. This will probably be the season opener against Jackson State. The action Mullen takes in this instance will certainly be scrutinized.

SEC Media Days

Mullen took the podium for the first time as a head coach at SEC Media Days in Birmingham this past week. All reports say he was very much at ease behind the mic and was talking up a storm. Kyle Veazey has a great write-up about Mullen's first appearance at Media Days. Alabama news site al.com also has video of Mullen as well as K.J.Wright and Derek Sherrod.

JSU Kick-off Set

The first three games of the Dan Mullen era at Mississippi State will be aired nationally, the Southeastern Conference announced Wednesday at its annual Football Media Days. The Bulldogs will open the season Sept. 5 with Jackson State at Davis Wade Stadium at Scott Field in a contest televised by ESPNU. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. CT.

The next two State contests will be conference games on the road - at Auburn (Sept. 12) and Vanderbilt (Sept. 19) - and both will be televised by Fox Sports Net. Both are slated to kickoff at 6 p.m. CT.
