Summertime Links

Things have been quiet around FWTCT recently. Part of the reason is the lull in activity and news during the summer months, and the other part is because I have been on vacation.

I will also be on vacation again in about 2 weeks, which means I will miss SEC Media Days. Once I get back, things should really start picking up around here with the start of fall practice and the start of the season just around the corner.

So, let's see what has been going on the past week or so.

Star-divide

The dates have already been set for Super Bulldog Weekend 2010. This is quite a change from this past year, when they decided to change the dates after many people (including myself) had already booked hotel rooms and made travel plans. The 25th edition of Super Bulldog Weekend will take place April 16-18, and the Diamond Dogs will face off against Tennessee.

The football team welcomed 10 more incoming freshmen to campus this week.Joining the off season program today are Johnthan Banks, Montrell Conner, Brandon Heavens, Gabriel Jackson, LaDarius Perkins, William Shumpert, Deontae Skinner, Chris Smith, Dennis Thames and Nickoe Whitley. The group joins freshmen Josh Boyd, Chad Bumphis, Fletcher Cox, Johnathan McKenzie and Tyler Russell, who were enrolled in the first summer term in June. It will be interesting to see how quickly these players can come up to speed and if they will contribute right away.

Want some season tickets and can't make it to every home game? The athletic department announced the availability of a mini-pack this week. The reduced-plan mini-pack tickets are available for the discounted price of just $75, a $55 savings over the individual-game cost of the three tickets. Those seats will be primarily located in Sections 305 to 309 of the upper level on the west side.

In recruiting, State picked up a verbal commitment from Yazoo County DE Kaleb Eulls. Eulls is listed at 6-4, 250 pounds and is a 4-star prospect right now.

In basketball news, Jarvis Varnado is making a name for himself on the USA's World University Games team. In a recent game against South Korea, Varnado contributed 11 points. You can keep up with the team stats (and Varnado's) on the Team USA cumulative stats page.

It will also be interesting to see how the Renardo Sydney stuff shakes out.
