Yesterday, seemingly out of nowhere, reports surfaced that 49er's number two running back Glen Coffee announced that he was leaving football for good.  This was great news for Mississippi State's own Anthony Dixon as it appears now he has a much better shot at becoming the number two back.  It appears that the only thing standing in his way at this point is veteran running back Michael Robinson.  However, 49er's coach Mike Singletary made the following comment yesterday about Dixon that may suggest otherwise:

"He (Anthony Dixon) and Coffee were competing to see who that backup guy was going to be," said Singletary. "And right now, it really forces Dixon to grow up really quick. It's one of those things where he is going to take more snaps; he's going to get more of the workload."

The upcoming preseason games are going to be very interesting for fans of Anthony Dixon.
