It's finally here. The first real test. We thought Auburn would be it, but it looks like Tennessee will be. Tonight State heads out to do battle with a very good Tennessee Volunteer team at Davis Wade Stadium. This is a game that many say could go either way, and why not - both teams have talent all over the field. For Tennessee and Derek Dooley, things are at a bit of a tipping point for the season. Win against MSU and you can temper off the complaints if you lose to Alabama and South Carolina. But lose to MSU then lose to those two, and there will be calls for Dooley's head.

For Mississippi State, it's about earning respect. We get very little, but respect is something earned, not given, and State will have another chance to earn some Saturday night. There are no moral victories here, only W's and L's in the appropriate column. Can State add a W to their record and continue one of the best starts in school history? We will find out soon. One thing's for sure - Tyler Bray and company won't make that easy for us. State will have to earn a victory, but the best things often aren't easy, and that includes wins in the SEC.
