EA Sports NCAA Football '13 Simulation: Mississippi State vs Arkansas

The Bulldogs are hosting the Arkansas Razorbacks for the final home game of the season. In recent years the Bulldogs have not had a lot of success against the Razorbacks. However, this is....shall we say a different Arkansas team than the Bulldogs have been facing in recent years. No one expected the Razorbacks to be so bad this year...including EA Sports. So how will the virtual Bulldogs measure up to the virtual Razorbacks of Arkansas? Read on to find out.

First Quarter:

Mississippi State will get the ball first to start the game. Jameon Lewis's return is good for 25 yards. Tyler Russell leads the Bulldog offense onto the field and on first down the ball is given to LaDarius Perkins. Perkins is brought down for a four yard loss on the play. On second down the ball is given to Perkins again...after the run MSU is now in a third and six situation. Russell will go to the air on the next play and his pass is complete to Chris Smith for a first down. Bulldogs now at their own 36. On first down Russell fakes a hand off and then goes to the air...the ball is almost picked off but the end result is an incompletion. Tyler Russell drops back to pass on the next play but is sacked...the ball comes loose! Arkansas falls on it and we have our first turnover of the game.

Arkansas will begin their first drive deep in Bulldog territory. Quarterback Tyler Wilson completes an eight yard pass on first down. On second and two the ball is given to Knile Davis and the back is stopped for a one yard loss. On third and three Wilson goes to the air...his pass is off target and nearly picked off in the end zone. Arkansas is forced to settle for a field goal and take the lead 3-0.

The Bulldogs will begin their next drive on their own 25. Tyler Russell launches a bullet to a receiver but the pass is broken up. The next play sees a completed pass to Jameon Lewis for a seven yard gain. On third down the ball is thrown to Chad Bumphis...Bumphis catches it but is stopped inches short of a first down. MSU punts the ball away.

Tyler Wilson completes a quick pass on first down for a four yard gain. On second down the ball is given to Davis...the back rumbles ahead and gets enough yards to earn a first down. On first down Wilson completes another four yard pass to Davis. Wilson drops back to pass and finds Demetrius Wilson...Wilson's catch picks up a couple of more yards and now its third and three for the Razorbacks. Wilson hands the ball off to Knile Davis again but the Bulldogs stand tall and create a one yard loss on the play! It's fourth down so the Razorbacks are forced to punt and after doing so a flag is thrown on the field. Offsides on MSU! Arkansas is suddenly able to pick up a first down off the dumb penalty. It's first down now and Tyler Wilson and the Razorbacks are in Bulldog territory. A quick throw to Cobi Hamilton picks up another first down and now Arkansas is in good position to at least come away with three. Wilson's next throw is broken up for an incompletion. It's second and ten. The ball is now given to Knile Davis again and the back picks up ten yards and a lot more...hes finally dropped at the MSU 12 yard line. Another pass picks up six yards and Arkansas is knocking on the door now. On second down Tyler Wilson is sacked and fumbles the ball in the process! Unfortunately Arkansas falls on it to keep the drive alive. First quarter ends with Arkansas leading 3-0.

Second Quarter:

Its third and eight for Arkansas. Tyler Wilson's next pass is complete...but its out of bounds! Arkansas settles for another field goal and extend their lead 6-0.

Jonathan Banks runs the kickoff back to the Bulldog 31 to begin the next drive. Tyler Russell gives it to Perkins and the play ends with a one yard loss. On second and eleven Russell passes to Chris Smith and Smith picks up a few yards after the catch to move the sticks for a first down! Russell gives it to Perkins on the next play and the back picks up eight. Another fake handoff turns into another pass on the next down and Russell finds Jameon Lewis for another first down. Perkins gets another shot on first down but the play goes nowhere. On second and ten Tyler Russell tries to thread the needle to get a pass to Chad Bumphis...this proves costly because Darius Winston is there to pick it off for Arkansas.

Tyler Wilson and the Razorbacks take over at their own 32. Wilson drops back to pass and immediately gives the ball back to MSU with an INT of his own. Ferlando Bohanna is the hero of the drive and suddenly MSU has the ball back.

Tyler Russell can't find anyone to throw to and is forced to scramble...he picks up six yards. On second down the ball is given to Perkins and #27 gets enough for a first down. On the next play the ball is given to Perkins again...this time Arkansas is ready and the play results in a one yard loss. The next play is a pass to Perkins...this time he is able to get the first down to keep the drive alive. On first down Russell fakes another hand off and keeps it himself...he gets a first down and is tackled at the Arkansas two yard line! First and goal for MSU. Tyler tries to keep it himself again and goes no where. State takes a timeout to conserve time...there are two minutes left in the half. Russell tries a pass to the back quarter of the end zone but he overthrows his receiver for an incompletion. Its now third and goal. Russell throws a dart to Chris Smith in front of the goal post for a touchdown! Bulldogs go on top 7-6.

With just under two minutes left in the half, Tyler Wilson leads the Razorbacks back onto the field to begin their next drive on the 29. Wilson throws a short pass to Julian Horton for an eight yard gain. On second down Wilson goes to Horton again to pick up the rest of the yards to get the first down. Arkansas is now on the fifty yard line. Another pass and another completion...this time to Javontee Herndon for a first down. Wilson is under heavy pressure on the next play...he gets the pass away but only one yard is gained. Arkansas takes their second time out of the half with only a minute left in the game. After an incompletion it's now third and nine. Wilson connects with another open receiver and gets exactly what they need to move the chains. Another pass...another gain...this time five yards. With time dwindling the Razorbacks hurry to the line...Wilson hurries his throw and is nearly picked off by Jonathon Banks. It's now third and five with around thirty seconds left on the clock and one time out. It's a running play this time and the Bulldogs stop Arkansas one yard short of a first down. Razorbacks line up for a field goal and create a false start that backs them up five yards. They line up again and this time all is well...field goal is good and Razorbacks lead it 9-7.

Bulldogs run the clock out and go to the locker room trailing 9-7.

Halftime

Razorbacks lead the Bulldogs 9-7

Third Quarter:

Arkansas will begin their next drive at their own 25. Wilson's first pass of the half should've been picked off by Banks...but he dropped it. On second down Wilson goes to the air again only to have the ball batted down. On third and ten he goes to the air again but out throws his receiver. Razorbacks punt the ball away.

Tyler Russell and the Bulldogs will begin the next drive at their 37. Russell's first pass is good for a six yard gain. On second down he gives it to Perkins...no gain on the play. It's third and four. The ball is given to Perkins again...this time he gets a first down. The next play is another run and suddenly MSU is in Arkansas territory. Another play, another run by Perkins...the back is tackled at the Razorback 32 yard line for another first down. Tyler laterals to Perkins this time...the play goes no where. Its second and ten...Perkins was hurt on the previous play and comes out of the game. A pass to Jameon Lewis picks up another first down. Russell keeps it himself and scrambles for a five yard gain on the next play. On second down the ball is thrown to Ricco Sanders for a touchdown. The Bulldogs are going to go for two points. The ball is snapped and Russell hands it to Derrick Milton...he plows forward and crosses the goal line! Bulldogs regain the lead...15-9!

Tyler WIlson begins his next drive with a wild pass that falls incomplete. On second down he gives it to Davis and he comes inches short of a first down. It's third and inches. The ball is given to Davis again and the back picks up the first down easily. The ball is at the Razorback 45. Wilson goes to the air on first down and picks up another first down. Arkansas now in Bulldog territory. Another run by Arkansas ends with another first down earned. Razorbacks now at the MSU 32. They keep it on the ground again and pick up one yard. On second and nine Wilson zips a pass to midfield and the tight end has it...he falls into the end zone for a TD. The Razorbacks now lead 16-15.

MSU begins the next drive at their 25. Tyler Russell pitches it to Milton and the back gets a yard on the play. On second and nine the ball given to Milton again for two yard gain. It's now third and seven. Russell goes to the air on the next play and the ball is batted own. MSU is forced to punt after the three and out.

Arkansas begins the next drive at their 37. Knile Davis runs straight up the middle for an easy first down. He's finally brought down at the MSU 49. Another hand off to Davis gets three yards. On second down Wilson gives it to Davis again for another two yard gain. The third quarter ends with Arkansas leading by one point. 16-15.

Fourth Quarter:

Wilson drops back to pass and out throws a wide open receiver for an incompletion. It's fourth down and Arkansas punts the ball away.

MSU begins their next drive at their 20. Defense jumps offsides and its now first and five for the Bulldogs. Russell scrambles and loses a yard. It's second and six and this time the ball is given to Milton again. The back picks up a first down and is tackled at the MSU 42. Russell has great protection on the next play...he goes for the home run and is lucky the ball is not picked off. It's second and ten. Russell gives it to Milton again and the back gets three yards. Another run comes up two yards short of a first down. MSU is forced to punt.

Arkansas is tackled at the 20...there is also a holding penalty called on the Razorbacks to back them up five more yards. Wilson's first pass is completed and now it's second and two. The ball is given to Davis again for a big gain. The ball is now at the Arkansas 37. On first down Wilson's pass is complete for seven yards. MSU takes a time out to conserve time. Wilson's next pass falls incomplete. On third down the ball is given to Davis again and the Bulldogs stand tall to force a punt!

With just under two minutes left and two time outs, Tyler Russell trots on to the field. His first pass is caught out of bounds. The next play is a hand off to Russell that goes backwards...one yard loss. On second down Perkins runs again and is stopped four yards short. It's now fourth and four...MSU is forced to go for it. Tyler Russell passes a deep ball that is well covered and falls incomplete. Turnover on downs.

With a minute left, Arkansas runs and after the tackle MSU uses its last time out. Davis runs again on second down and picks up a first down. It's now first and goal for the Razorbacks. Wilson takes a knee to end the game.

Arkansas gets the 16-15 win over Mississippi State

Arkansas had 258 yards of total offense and 149 of it was through the air

Mississippi State had 172 yards of total offense with only 44 yards through the air

Mississippi State had two turnovers while Arkansas only had one
