1963 Liberty Bowl

The Liberty Bowl is presently played in Memphis, TN. But, as you might imagine, it was originally played in Philadelphia, PA. So, cold weather was a factor - a big one in this game as temps dropped as low as 15 degrees.

MSU was playing N.C. State, and neither school's fans were prepared to make the trek to Philly to endure the bitter cold. Only 8,309 fans were in attendance......in a 102,000 seat stadium. The Bulldogs won the game 16-12, but the low attendance caused by the cold led the Liberty Bowl to look for another hosting city. They were in Atlantic City for a year before pertinently finding a home in Memphis.
