Houston's Fox26 reports that MSU and Oklahoma State are close to finalizing a deal to open the 2013 season in Houston at Reliant Stadium
After years of scheduling softer non-conference opponents to buildup wins and resumes, it appears Coach Dan Mullen and the Mississippi State football team are ready to try their hand at a tough game outside of the SEC.
Fox 26 out of Houston, Texas is reporting tonight that Lone Star Sports and Entertainment has reached a tentative agreement with Oklahoma State and Mississippi State to play a game at Reliant Stadium in 2013. Reliant, as you may know, is the home of the Houston Texans.
Lone Star Sports and Entertainment's website describes the business as follows:
Lone Star Sports & Entertainment (LSSE) is a third-party event marketing company based in Houston, TX, closely affiliated with the Houston Texans. LSSE utilizes a proven marketing process and unparalleled resources and relationships to achieve break-through commercial results for the events and properties we represent.
The school has not responded to this report as of the time of this posting.
ETA: The report does not mention if the game would be to open the 2013 season, but one can certainly speculate if this would be setup like many of the other big kickoff games, such as Alabama vs. Michigan at Dallas in the Cowboys Classic, or Clemson vs. Auburn in Atlanta for the Chik Fil A Kickoff Classic, both played two weeks ago to open the 2012 season.
