Will Cox went seven strong innings to guide State to a 8-1 win over Samford on Sunday afternoon. It completed a sweep of the Diamond Classic, going 2-0 vs. Purdue and 2-0 vs. Samford.
Hunter Renfroe, Wes Rea and Trey Porter all sat this one out, but it was still a big day for the hitters. Alex Detz, subbing for Rea at first base, had three hits on the afternoon. Derek Armstrong, playing RF for Renfroe, had a 2-RBI single.
Mississippi State is now 9-0. The pitching staff has a dazzling E.R.A of 1.22, and the team batting average is .322. Not too shabby.
