Tyre'oune Holmes flips commitment from MSU to Southern Miss

Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE

Weeks after MSU flipped Southern Miss commit Damian Williams, the Golden Eagles have returned the favor, stealing away the Tylertown athlete.

Tylertown, Mississippi athlete Tyre'oune Holmes has flipped his commitment from Mississippi State to Southern Mississippi, the Rivals.com site Big Gold Nation reports this evening.

The 3-star athlete had been committed to MSU since late last summer, after receiving an offer following MSU's annual Big Dawg Camp. The talented Tylertown standout ultimately decided to stay closer to home, however, in his decision to sign instead with the Golden Eagles.

Holmes' recruitment had been quiet since his commitment to MSU last year, but that didn't stop the Golden Eagles from pursuing him. Then, Holmes took a visit two weekends ago to Hattiesburg, and came away impressed. Here's what Holmes told Big Gold Nation about his decision to switch:

"It didn't have anything to do with Mississippi State or their recruiting process," he said. "I just had to sit down and think about what was best for me and my family."

As always, can't do anything but wish the best of luck to Tyre'oune at Southern Miss.

The loss of Holmes to the MSU class moves State's current commitments back down to 17. The question on many people's minds currently is who this might open up a spot for on NSD. The first name many wonder on is Jahmere Irvin-Sills, who seemingly was bumped out by the addition of Tolando Cleveland last week. It seems like MSU will hold off on Irvin-Sills still until they know the final destinations of the Alexander twins -- Mackensie and Mackenro -- who decide tomorrow morning around 10:45.

Holmes' flip from MSU to Southern is why we always tell people that nothing is certain in recruiting until the recruit signs on the dotted line. Anything can happen, and who knows what else tomorrow might bring in the way of surprises. Hopefully only good ones, but we will see.
