Alright, let's see a show of hands for those who called a 17-2 rout of #3 Vanderbilt for Friday night's game?
No one? Okay, what about MSU taking a weekend series over the aforementioned #3 Commodores? A few of you? Quit lying.
Needless to say, MSU's strong showing this weekend was a big of a surprise to some/most of us, namely the two-touchdown trouncing they put on Vandy All-Everything Tyler Beede on Friday night. With a series win over a top-five opponent, how did MSU move in the polls this week? Let's take a look, but first, our music theme for this week!
As the song's title indicates, MSU did "Rise Today" in each of the polls following the very impressive weekend showing. Here's a look at the polls:

As expected, the Bulldogs rose anywhere from 2-5 spots in this week's polls following a very impressive weekend at home against Vanderbilt. Here are a few more miscellaneous notes on Bulldog opponents and others from the SEC this week:
- The Commodores, following a series loss at Dudy Noble, only fell a few spots in most polls. That, to me, shows some respect for MSU as the series loss in Starkville didn't hurt Vandy as bad as it would have against a lower tier team.
- South Carolina took one on the chin this weekend with a series loss to Kentucky, which was enough to knock the Gamecocks out of the #1 spot in all of the polls. Florida State took their spot after despite a 2-2 week.
- Auburn entered a few polls this week after back to back series wins to open SEC play over Texas A&M and Tennessee. Tennessee, like Vandy, had to salvage a Sunday win to avoid getting swept. Maybe Auburn baseball will be relevant this year after a slow start to the season.
- MSU's next ranked opponent on the schedule is LSU, who moved up a few notches in most polls after a weekend sweep of Georgia at home last weekend. The Tigers and Bulldogs will battle in Baton Rouge in two weeks.
