Are these our new jerseys for football for 2012? Friend of the blog Derek Cody spotted this on ESPNU's "Making of EA Sports' NCAA '13". We don't know if this is for SURE the new jersey, but Derek told me (well, he tweeted) that they said they were shooting the new jerseys for the game when showing them in the documentary. The first edition of the Mississippi State (A&M then) basketball team, coached by T.H. Werner (the pimp in the top right of the photo) would start off the inaugural campaign in 1908 red hot, winning their first five games against heavy competition such as the Brownsville Athletic Club and the College of Memphis. Unfortunately, they would go into a tailspin, losing their last five games to teams like LSU, Tulane and the New Orleans YMCA. But, you know, the jerseys were cool! Forget billboards, these days our marketing department is coming up with more and more clever ways to advertise for Mississippi State: like across the chest of a former Vice Presidential candidate's daughter on Lifetime. If you are coming up blank on who that is, that's Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, who apparently is famous enough to have a show on Lifetime? I expect Ole Miss to counter by getting Coach Freeze a cameo on the next Madea movie (via Sixpackspeak)

Hunter Renfroe had his second consecutive 3 for 4 night and the Dawgs beat the Gators 2-0 to even the series. Kendall Graveman pitched an excellent game: 7 2/3, 0 runs, only 3 hits vs. a great hitting ballclub. Johnathon Holder came in and got a 1 1/3 innings save. State is now 13-13 in the SEC. A win on Sunday would clinch the series and would put them in 2nd place all alone as Arkansas has already dropped 2 of 3 to Auburn. Georgia is 13-13 and has their rubber game with South Carolina on Sunday as well.

Although we've bickered via billboards as of late, Southern Miss and MSU haven't always been heated rivals. In 1985, at the USM-MSU game in Jackson, Bully and Seymour took a break from mascoting to share a cold adult refreshment. The mascots tapped the Rockies together, and then State tapped Southern for a 23-20 win. (via maroon-white tumblr)
