EMCC wide receiver Corey Smith was not the only JUCO wide out to commit to Mississippi State this weekend, as Tyler (Texas) Community College wide receiver Jeremy Chappelle pledged to MSU today as well.
Jeremy Chappelle, the 6'3" 210 lb receiver chose MSU this weekend over offers from West Virginia, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Middle Tennessee, Hawaii and Southern Miss, among others.
Chappelle is rated as a *** star prospect by 247 sports, a *** by Rivals, and is not ranked by Scout currently. Chappelle listed several things that were key to his commitment, including catching balls from Tyler Russell and the new football facility. From the above linked commitment story on Bulldawgs 247:
(MSU quarterback) Tyler Russell was my host and they had him with me all weekend. We built a good relationship and it is going to be great to catch balls from an NFL-type quarterback." [...]
Also an "eye catcher" on his visit, said Chappelle, was the Bulldogs' new football facility that will be finished by the time he arrives on campus.
"That new facility is a big eye catcher," said Chappelle. "I really liked that and it is good for any recruit to see. It is an unreal building and it has to be one of the nicest in the country. I can't wait to be in that facility for good."
Again, Chappelle is a huge get for State, and could step in along with Smith next season and contribute right away. After missing on Rumph several weeks ago State was still in need of some quality wide outs, and got two really good ones in Chappelle and Rumph. Great job by Brewster, Mullen, and the rest of the staff on adding these two.
Chappelle becomes the 21st commitment for the 2013 MSU recruiting class.
