The Ohio native finally got the firm offer that he had been waiting for from Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, and Tuesday afternoon took advantage of it, changing his commitment to Ohio State.
East Mississippi C.C. wide receiver Corey Smith has changed his commitment this afternoon from Mississippi State to Ohio State, Scout's Bill Green reports.

The 5'11" 185 lb receiver who played his most recent ball at nearby EMCC in Scooba committed to MSU last December, but is from the Akron, Ohio area originally. This was always thought to be a possibility with Smith, and today, that possibility came true.
The Buckeyes were thought to have several options in front of Corey at the wide receiver position, but when James Quick, a 4-star WR prospect, chose Louisville over Ohio State, the Buckeyes turned their attention to Smith. According to Scout.com, Smith received a commitable offer this morning, and as we see, it didn't take him long to decide to go back closer to home.
Although this certainly isn't what the MSU recruiting class needed right now, you can not blame a kid like Smith for wanting to go to a program he grew up admiring. All the best to him there playing for Urban Meyer. Looks like the mentor decided to take one away from his pupil.
So where could MSU look to fill Smith's spot? Probably back to Scott Austin, who John Luke told you recently was asked to gray shirt as a part of the MSU class, rather than go on scholarship initially. Austin, since getting the gray shirt news, has taken visits to UL-Lafayette and South Alabama, but assuredly would rejoin this class on scholarship should that offer be extended to him. Another option for MSU would be Fred Ross, the 4-star Oklahoma State commit who secretly visited Starkville this past weekend. It is unclear at this time however if Ross is reconsidering his commitment to Oklahoma St. or not. He tweeted yesterday that he had not decommited yet from the Cowboys following the visit. Could he have just been on a visit to see friend Jeremey Chappelle? We don't know. Ross has said very little since his visit was made public yesterday, so we are still in the dark as to how seriously he may be considering Mississippi State. Ross has been committed to OSU since last February.
