Let's Think Positive: Best Case Scenario for Basketball Next Year

Who knows, maybe Rick Ray will be able to come into the program and keep all the remaining players, the signed recruits and even pull in 5-star Devonta Pollard. If so, here's a look at the best case scenario for State next year...

PG - Fr. Josh Grey

SG - Jr. Jalen Steele

G/F - So. Rodney Hood

F - Fr. Devonta Pollard

C - Sr. Wendell Lewis

Obviously, that would be a really 'small' lineup. Hood might have a inch on Pollard, and it would almost be a four guard lineup similar to the 2010 team where Phil Turner played the four. It would also be a very young lineup....two true freshman, a sophomore and senior leadership coming from an average at best Lewis. But the good news - Ray would be able to mold that team just how he wants...and they'd be talented.

Some other options for starters:

F/C - Fr. Gavin Ware

F - Jr. Kristers Zeidaks

F - So. Roquez Johnson

And to add to this best case scenario - we pick up a Juco point guard to take some of the load off Josh Grey.

If all of this happened, I would think State could end up with a similar record to this past season...you know, when they underachieved. Anywhere from 6-10 to 10-6 in the SEC could be a possibility. But I guess they'll be playing 18 conference games next year, so let's just say 8-9 wins.

If all these cards were to fall into place we could see year two of the Rick Ray era as a really good team. Look at that starting lineup with one more year of experience, and replace Lewis with Ware. That would look pretty good to me. That kind of team could make some serious noise.
