Auburn Wins Game 1, or Game 2 or whatever it is, 3-1

The Diamond Dawgs play, how shall we say.. sucky, and lose to Auburn

Kendall Graveman's streak of three consecutive complete games ended in Game 2 (but first game to end) of this weekend's series vs. Auburn. He went seven innings giving up 3 runs, but deserved better fate as only one of them was earned.

Auburn's first run was unearned due to a throwing error by Graveman in the 1st inning. Their second run came on a single in the 3rd that got past Adam Frazier, but a play he should have made and I thought it could have been ruled an error. The third run came in the 5th inning on a sac fly, but that runner got to 3rd base when Hunter Renfroe committed an error in the outfield allowing the ball to get past him - that run was unearned.

MSU had some chances of their own to score but couldn't capitalize. They should have scored in the 2nd when DeMarcus Henderson clearly beat out the shortstop's throw but he was called for the third out. State had the bases loaded in the 6th inning but Wes Rea grounded into a 4-6-3 double play. The 7th inning ended with some horrible bases running by Ammirati that killed a rally (although there were a couple bad calls that went MSU's way, shouldn't have been a rally in the first place). The Dawgs mounted a rally in the 9th scoring their only run of the night and getting runners on 1st and 2nd before Alex Detz grounded out to end the game.

It was the biggest crowd of the season - over 10K. But they witnessed a poorly played game by MSU. For now, State drops to 8-8 in the SEC. Game 1 is also being finished tonight, so we'll know if Saturday's game is a rubber matchup or if Auburn is going for the sweep.
