Preston Brown provided a quality pitching performance, allowing 10 hits and 5 earned runs but only walking one and striking out 5 batters in 7.1 innings. Trevor Fitts came in and led MSU through the notoriously rough 8th inning and gained his 5th save of the season.
After a 53 minute rain delay in the 2nd inning, the floodgates opened for MSU's offense as they batted in six of their seven runs in the third inning with two outs. The bevy of runs started when South Carolina overthrew their second baseman on a routine groundout and MSU cashed in two runs on the error. MSU collected three doubles in the inning and four different Bulldogs provided RBI's to drive in six unearned runs and give MSU a 6-1 lead.
Jake Vickerson provided another RBI-single in the fourth inning and MSU went up 7-2. South Carolina rallied in the 7th and 8th innings, scoring three runs, but it wasn't enough after Trevor Fitts came in to relieve Preston Brown and allowed an RBI, then subsequently retired five batters to seal the Bulldog victory. MSU will attempt to sweep the Gamecocks when they faceoff at 2 PM CST today.
