Mississippi State jumped out to a quick start against Villanova and didn’t look back as they started the season. The Bulldogs got the season started up in Orono, Maine by defeating Villanova 108-62.

The Bulldogs had seven players score in double digits, being paced by Roshunda Johnson with 21 points. Morgan William, Jazzmun Holmes, Dominique Dillingham, Chinwe Okorie, Teaira McCowan, and Jacaira Allen all recorded double digit scoring figures tonight as well.

Johnson, a redshirt junior that sat out a year ago after transferring from Oklahoma State where she was named to the 2014 All-Big 12 Freshman team and the 2015 All-Big 12 Tournament team dominated tonight in a very efficient manner. She scored her 21 points in 14 minutes off of making 8 of her 9 shots.

Mississippi State didn’t just dominate on the scoreboard. They were better than Villanova in every facet of the game. MSU had more assists (15 to 11), steals (4 to 3), rebounds (43 to 24), and blocks (1 to 0) while also recording fewer turnovers (6 to 12) and fouls (26 to 27) than Villanova.

Mississippi State will remain in Maine to take on the University of Maine tomorrow night at 6:00 before returning to Mississippi to play Tulane in Biloxi on Wednesday night.
