The San Diego Padres took a while, but they finally called up Hunter Renfroe

It finally happened for Hunter Renfroe. It took a while, but it finally happened. Hunter Renfroe has now been called up by the San Diego Padres.

Calling Renfroe up at this point is clearly a move to help the Padres build for the future, as they are 4th in the NL West and have a record of 63-87. But the 13th overall pick from the 2013 MLB draft has now ascended to the highest level of competition for baseball and will give the Padres a much needed power hitter into their lineup.

Per Hailstate.com, Renfroe is the fifth former Bulldog to be called up this season:

The call-up marks the fifth Diamond Dawg to be called up this season, joining Adam Frazier, who was called up by Pittsburgh on June 24, Chad Girodo, who was called up by Toronto on April 22, Chris Stratton, who joined San Francisco on May 28 and Jonathan Holder, who joined the New York Yankees on Sept. 2.

Renfroe is also the sixth former Bulldog from the 2013 College World Series team to make it to the majors:

Renfroe is now the sixth member of the 2013 College World Series Diamond Dawg squad to reach the big leagues, joining Frazier, Girodo, Holder, Kendall Graveman and Jacob Lindgren.

Congrats, Hunter Renfroe! Good luck in San Diego!
