Mississippi State (12-4, 3-1 SEC) was able to overcome a shaky start to defeat the Texas A&M Aggies (9-7, 1-4 SEC) 67-59. The Bulldogs, at one time down by 10 points in this game, overcame the Aggie defense to eventually win by 8 points.

Four of Mississippi State’s starters reached double digits scoring today, with freshman forward Schnider Herard leading the way with 16 points. Lamar Peters wasn’t far behind though, scoring 14 points, going a perfect 11 for 11 from the free throw line.

Sophomores Quinndary Weatherspoon and Aric Holman were both instrumental in the win today, scoring 13 points and 11 points respectively. The duo were the most accurate shooters for the day, shooting a combined 9 for 13 from the field, while going a combined 4 for 7 from behind the three point line.

The Bulldogs also were a force on defense, holding the Aggies to 1 of 14 from three point range and forcing 22 turnovers. Peters and I.J. Ready led the way for MSU in steals with 5 and 3 respectively.

Mississippi State didn’t play a perfect game by any stretch of the imagination, but they were able to overcome their shortcomings for the win. MSU struggled with shooting in the first half and found themselves down 10-0 at one point. The Aggies outrebounded Mississippi State by 15 rebounds, but the Bulldogs’ defense and timely made shots helped the young team win.

Mississippi State has now won 3 games in a row, all of which are in SEC play. The Bulldogs will get the pleasure of hosting the 6th ranked Kentucky Wildcats in a handful of days.
