SEC Power Rankings: Week 10

Stacking up the SEC from 1 to 14.

NCAA Football: SEC Media Days Jason Getz-USA TODAY Sports

Two-thirds of the season is done. Seems like it was just yesterday we were all celebrating college football’s return, and now it is almost over. But we know quite a bit about where all of these teams are now.

Here’s how I am ranking the SEC after 8 weeks of play.

#1 Alabama Crimson Tide (Last Week: 1)

Bama took the week off, and will be as prepared as ever for their game against LSU.

#2 Georgia Bulldogs (Last Week: #2)

Is Kirby Smart building a Saban-like juggernaut in the East? It’s still too early to tell, but he might be.

#3 Mississippi St. Bulldogs (Last Week: #4)

Should Auburn be ahead of Mississippi State? Maybe, but LSU, Auburn and the Bulldogs have the same record and they are all 1-1 against each other, so I’ll keep using that as my basis to put them all around the same spot.

#4 LSU Tigers (Last Week: #5)

LSU probably won’t win against Bama, but they can still go 9-3 and have a good season which most didn’t think was possible after they were beat by State and Troy.

#5 Auburn Tigers (Last Week: #6)

Auburn will head to Texas A&M this week. The loser will probably get their head coach fired at the end of the season.

#6 South Carolina Gamecocks (Last Week: #7)

South Carolina is quietly putting together a solid season. 8-4 seems like the ceiling, but that’s not too bad for where they were a few seasons ago.

#7 Kentucky Wildcats (Last Week: #8)

Kentucky isn’t really good, but they can still finish with 7 to 9 wins and that’s worthy of a major celebration for the basketball focused school.

#8 Texas A&M Aggies (Last Week: #3)

This is about where I thought the Aggies would end up for most of the season, but as usual, it just takes a little time to actually get them to the right spot.

#9 Arkansas Razorbacks (Last Week: #14)

Here is the part of the rankings I don’t know what to do with. I could probably put 9 through 14 in a hat and just draw teams out and be just as close to being right. We’ll jump Arkansas way up for basically doing something really improbable.

#10 Florida Gators (Last Week: #9)

Sure, I guess they belong here. Don’t be surprised though if this team goes in the tank even further now that Jim McElwain has been fired.

#11 Missouri Tigers (Last Week: #13)

It’s not out of the question for Missouri to get to a bowl. They have some winnable games coming up, but before I put them in the top 10, I need to see them beat an SEC opponent.

#12 Ole Miss Rebels (Last Week: #10)

Is this when Ole Miss checks out? I’ve been trying to figure out when they would all season and after blowing a 24 point lead at home seems like the right time for a team with nothing to play for would check out.

#13 Vanderbilt Commodores (Last Week: #12)

Would Vanderbilt have had a nice season had they not played Alabama this year? They looked like a decent team until that game, and have been a mess ever since.

#14 Tennessee Volunteers (Last Week: #13)

Tennessee needs to follow the lead of Florida and make a move on their lame duck coach.

That’s this week’s rankings. We’ll be back at it next week.
