So, Mississippi State and Ole Miss come together every year to play football. This is well known. It’s a rivalry. It’s a rivalry that dominates the internet and often gets pretty heated. And, as well know, it’s Egg Bowl week.
And it appears that John Cohen and Ross Bjork want you to act on your best behavior for this Egg Bowl. The two released a joint statement as seen below:
The statement reads:
The Magnolia State will be on the national stage this Thanksgiving night, as two football teams from our proud universities face off in the annual Battle for the Golden Egg. In the spirit of sportsmanship, we ask that fans from both schools honor this storied rivalry with civility and respect for each other.
This game represents so many indelible memories and unites people from every corner of our wonderful state. Friends, neighbors, and co-workers from both sides come together for one day as one Mississippi to celebrate our state’s greatest rivalry. Please join us in enjoying the tradition of the Egg Bowl in a respectful and positive manner.
So, here we are, being asked to behave civilly and respectfully. We’re being asked to act like, well, humans for this Egg Bowl. I’m not sure why this is an issue. CLEARLY this rivalry has never gotten that heated, right? I’m sure that we’re all going to be on our best behavior, right?
I’d pimp slap Simmons and wish he would try and stop me.— Misfit (@Smoke3x) November 18, 2017
