Mississippi State has a National Championship Contender

It’s pretty obvious that Mississippi State women’s basketball is a national championship contender this season. After upsetting Uconn last year, everyone knew that this team would be back next year. I knew that they would be back, but did not expect this dominance all around.

On Wednesday night at Humphrey Coliseum, Mississippi State handled #9 Oregon 90-79. Many people thought that Oregon would be a difficult test for Mississippi State, but the Lady Bulldogs coasted right on through. Teaira McCowan and Victoria Vivians combined for a total of 65 points on Wednesday night. McCowan, the Lady Bulldog’s leading scorer, dropped 35 points and had 19 rebounds. McCowan has developed into one of the best post players in women’s college basketball this year. Vivians, on the other hand, has always been productive. Vivians had a total of 30 points on Wednesday night. It seems as if the Lady Bulldogs run the offense through Vivians and it’s rare if she has a bad night. If these two girls continue to play like they are, the Lady Bulldogs will have no problem making it far in the NCAA tournament this year.

The #5 Lady Bulldogs next game will be on Sunday, December 17 at 2:00 PM CT. They will play the Maine Black Bears who are 6-4 on the season and lead their conference. The good thing is the Lady Black Bears are 1-3 on the road and this game will be played at the Humphrey Coliseum. With the Lady Bulldogs playing the way they are right now, this shouldn’t be too close of a game.
