In the first game of a season opening double header, Mississippi State was able to clinch their first win of the season. Alexis Silkwood’s dominant effort in the circle was a huge reason that MSU was able to come away with the win.
Silkwood threw a complete game en route to getting what was recorded as her first win of the season as well. She only surrendered 3 hits and 2 walks in 7 innings of work while she struck out 5 of the 27 batters she faced.
When the Bulldogs were at the plate, they were able to get timely hits that allowed them to score enough runs to create an insurmountable lead. It started in the 2nd inning, where a single by Emily Heimberger with the bases loaded scored Carmen Carter and Olivia Golden.
Reggie Harrison was able to score an inning later thanks to quick base running and a fielder’s choice that failed to get anyone out. The final run of the game was scored in the 6th inning where Golden would score again thanks to a sac fly from Katie Anne Bailey.
MSU is set to face Stephen F. Austin in their second game in the Bulldog Kickoff Classic in less than 30 minutes.
