Mississippi State lost its first game of the season today, dropping its matchup to the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers by a score of 1-0. Mississippi State is now 2-1 on the season, but is the top seeded team for the Bulldog Classic Kickoff Tournament.

The Bulldogs continue to impress when it comes to pitching, with Cassady Knudsen getting the start and going 6.1 innings and striking out 9 in the process, which ties a career high for her. Knudsen was eventually relieved by Alexis Silkwood in the 7th. Silkwood inherited a couple of baserunners, but she was able to end the inning quickly with a pair of pop outs hit directly to her.

Mississippi State actually outhit the Hilltoppers by a margin of 7 to 1, but the Bulldogs were unable to produce any runs from it. MSU ended up leaving 8 runners on base in the game.

The Bulldogs are set to face off with Stephen F. Austin at 3:02 today.
