Runs have come at a premium for Mississippi State’s team today. They outhit Western Kentucky 7-1 earlier today but ultimately lost 1-0. Their game against Stephen F. Austin showed a continuation of that trend, but timely hitting ultimately gave State the victory.
Mississippi State would get an amazing effort out of Alexis Silkwood today. Silkwood got her 2nd win of the season with another complete game effort where she struck out a couple and only surrendered 1 win. But her endeavors at the plate were as noteworthy as her stint in the circle.
Silkwood went 3-3 hitting today, bringing home Sarai Niu in the 4th inning to tie the game at 1-1 at the time. She then got a single in the 7th where Vann Stuedeman brought in Bevia Robinson to pinch run.
With 1 out and Robinson at first, Carmen Carter took the plate. She would go on to hit the ball down the left field line and bring Robinson home to score the winning run. Mississippi State is now 3-1 on the season and will play in the championship game of the Bulldog Kickoff Classic tournament tomorrow afternoon.
