Mississippi State wrapped things up in Mexico by winning their final game of the Puerto Vallarta College Challenge against Florida Gulf Coast by a score of 6-3. The Bulldogs got out to a hot start and held off the Eagles to win the game.
Holly Ward got the start for the Bulldogs, throwing 3 complete inning
Alexis Silkwood replaced Ward in the 4th and would finish out the game. With the win today, Silkwood remains undefeated on the year at 5-0.
The Bulldogs only trailed at one point today, and that was with a 1-0 lead after the top half of the first inning. Caroline Seitz brought Bevia Robinson home on a single to tie the game up after one inning.
From there, it was pretty much all MSU. In the bottom of the 2nd, Katie Anne Bailey hit a triple that would score Morgan Bell. Bailey was then able to make it on home after a single from Calyn Adams. Kat Moore would follow that up with a single of her own, extending the lead to 4-1 for the Maroon and White.
Olivia Golden hit an RBI double in the 5th inning and an Emily Heimberger RBI single in the bottom of the 6th would give MSU the 6-3 lead, which would be the final score.
The Eagles tried to fight back in the 4th inning, bringing home a pair of runs to cut the lead to 4-3, but the Bulldogs would score a couple more runs later and that was as close as Florida Gulf Coast came to a comeback.
Mississippi State ended up 3-1 in Puerto Vallarta to move to 6-3 on the season. The Bulldogs will host the February Freezer tournament next weekend in Nusz Park.
