Mississippi State softball claimed another win today. In their second game of a double header, Mississippi State squared off against Eastern Illinois. The Panthers and Bulldogs had identical 7-3 records coming into the game.
Holly Ward took the circle for the Bulldogs and she threw a complete game in her outing today. Ward’s performance included 7 strikeouts, 2 walks, and the 1 run she forfeited was unearned.
As with today’s earlier game, MSU didn’t waste any time getting out to a lead. A two run bomb to right field from Reggie Harrison gave the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead. That lead would then expand to 3 runs an inning later thanks to Emily Heimberger making it home off of a fielding error.
Eastern Illinois would cut the lead to 3-1 in the third inning with the aforementioned unearned run, but Olivia Golden’s homer in the 5th would bring about the final score of 4-1.
Mississippi State is now 8-3 on the season and will play again tomorrow at 12:30 against SIU-Carbondale.
