The Gillom trophy is given in honor of Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame inductee Peggie Gillom-Granderson. From their official site:
The Cellular South Gillom Trophy, which is named in her honor, is presented to Mississippi’s top collegiate women’s basketball player by the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and Museum every year since 2008
The only other players to win the award multiple times are Ole Miss’ Shandricka Sessom and Delta State’s Chelsey Rhodes.
Victoria Vivians is averaging 16.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per game this season for the SEC-runner up Bulldogs.
Vivians beat out teammate Morgan William and Southern Miss’ Brittany Dinkins to win the award for an amazing third time.
Victoria Vivians will attempt to lead the Maroon and White deep into a March tournament run. Mississippi State is projected to be a 2-seed in the NCAA tournament. The bracket will be released on Monday, March 13.
