Mississippi State (36-18, 10-13 SEC) claimed their 4th SEC series victory today as they held off a late surge from the #16 Kentucky Wildcats (34-16, 11-12 SEC). The Bulldogs won 5-3 after defeating Kentucky 5-2 last night.

Like yesterday, Mississippi State jumped out to an early lead. Today, it was caused by Olivia Golden’s RBI sac fly to bring home Bevia Robinson. But it wouldn’t take long for MSU to expand that lead.
In the 3rd inning, Caroline Seitz hit her 9th home run of the year, a solo shot to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead.

An RBI double from Reggie Harrison in the bottom of the 5th was followed by an RBI single by Morgan Bell, extending the lead to 4-0 over the Wildcats. But, Kentucky did fight back a bit, putting two runs on the board in the 6th. Seitz would have another RBI in the bottom of the 6th inning, bringing the score to 5-2 heading into the 7th inning.
Kentucky would go on to add one more run on in the 7th, getting within two runs at 5-3, but they simply didn’t have enough to extend the game beyond the top of the final frame.
Vann Stuedeman’s squad will look to sweep the Wildcats in the final game of the regular season tomorrow. From there, the Bulldogs will look to make some noise in the SEC tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee.
