The Mississippi State Bulldogs lost to the LSU Tigers in the first game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional 4-3. Making matters worse for Mississippi State fans is the fact the Bulldogs had a 3-0 lead entering the 8th inning.
After a leadoff walk by Peyton Plumlee and a one out base hit, LSU slugger Greg Deichmann stepped to the plate while Riley Self and Spencer Price were warming up in the bullpen. Andy Cannizaro elected to keep Plumlee in the game, and Deichmann hit a two run double.
Plumlee was then pulled in favor of Self. Deichmann would score on a Watson single, and then Self gave up a sacrifice which gave the Tigers the lead. The Bulldogs would get a runner to second in the bottom of the ninth, but that would be as close as they get.
The decision which will be debated is the one to leave Peyton Plumlee in the game. Self gave up two runs himself, but he might have fared better against Deichmann. Vote in our poll, what would you have done if you were in Andy Cannizaro’s shoes?
