Mississippi State Falls to 24th in Both AP and Coaches Polls

Bulldogs take predictable tumble in the polls after losing big to Georgia.

The Mississippi St. Bulldogs had a tough day in Athens on Saturday, and the AP and Coaches Poll reflected the outcome on the field. The Bulldogs entered the week 17th and 19th respectively, and they fell to 24th in both.

In the AP Poll, Mississippi State had one of the biggest drops for the week. The school that dropped the most was Florida State who fell from 12th to all the way out of the poll. The Amway Coaches Poll had a similar result for both Mississippi State and Florida State, thought FSU was able to stay ranked in the Coaches Poll.

While there aren’t many fans who would question a free fall in the polls by Mississippi State, there was one detail about the Coaches Poll that left some Bulldog fans scratching their heads. LSU, the team the Bulldogs crushed by 30 points in the third game of the season was ranked 22nd in the country, two spots ahead of Mississippi State.

Regardless, if Mississippi State wants to remain ranked for a third consecutive week, they will have to beat another top 25 club on the road in week 5. Auburn was ranked 15th by both the AP writers and the Coaches.

That game will be another tough game for Mississippi State. The Tigers defense is similar to Georgia’s, but Mississippi State will have a better chance to get pressure on Auburn based on early returns from the Tigers offensive line. The game will air at 6:00 p.m. on ESPN this Saturday. It will be the last road game for the Bulldogs until the end of October.
