It goes without saying that shooters along the perimeter are a must in today’s game. However, a trusted sharpshooter from behind the arc is an entirely different story. Blair Schaefer has elevated herself into a three-point specialist on and off the dribble, setting the tone game after game. While unfazed by the moment, she is an immediate threat and closer when needed.
Schaefer has earned the respect of the opposition, drawing defenders throughout her senior season. Able to create opportunities for teammates, she has become a wizard when passing the ball, adding more assists to her stat line. The offensive side of the ball prides itself on passing and ability to shoot from long range, both elements in which Schaefer excels.
Matching her season high with 15 points this past Sunday at arch rival Ole Miss, Schaefer’s five threes provided a spark. Though her best outing was at home, also against the Rebels. With 14 points and six assists, Schaefer’s all-around game was at its best on both ends of the floor.
Having earned the trust of her teammates, Schaefer’s reliability speaks for her career. Taking after her father and head Coach Vic Schaefer, she is not afraid to lead. With a strong and selfless supporting cast, Schaefer knows her role.
She and fellow guard Roshunda Johnson have picked each other’s brains, having developed a lethal duo of their own. While they may not be the first names that come to mind when as it pertains to the Bulldogs’ 22-0 start, Schaefer and Johnson are integral components. Johnson’s defensive mind goes hand in hand with Schaefer’s offensive ability, ultimately turning the two into one of the nation’s most dynamic duos.
It only takes one three from Schaefer to ignite Mississippi State, as her quick release has been consistent all season. Only to continue going forward, she makes the most of her minutes, taking advantage of every opportunity. Whether it be in the corner, at the top of the key, or anywhere behind that three-point line, Schaefer has ice in her veins from outside. With a tough road test at Missouri and a sure to be epic showdown under the bright lights at home against South Carolina, look for Schaefer keep it up from three.
