With only a matter of days before the Egg Bowl, if playing Ole Miss in the season finale is not enough to get the Mississippi State football team excited, the Bulldogs landing wide receiver Javonta Payton has to be exciting.
Payton, the second-best JUCO wide receiver in Mississippi by 247Composite, has made his mark at Northwest Miss. Community College. As a sophomore, he has tallied 23 receptions for 331 yards and two touchdowns. During his freshman campaign, he snagged 44 catches for 509 yards and 10 touchdowns.
I want to thank all the coaches who have recruited me these last few months. Thank you to Northwest coaches for being there for me and helping me with this journey. My family & I have talked this over & I am excited to say I am officially Committed to Mississippi #HailState pic.twitter.com/Lk7Pyz0JqZ

The Tennessee native said he felt like Mississippi State was home for him during his weekend visit.
”Honestly, I felt like I was at home there this weekend and I really built a bond with the players and the coaches. My family absolutely loved it there and they were happy for me. Now I get to come in there and work towards us bringing a championship to Mississippi State.”
Payton, a three-star prospect, became the third wide receiver to commit with Mississippi State in the 2019 recruiting class. He now joins three-star recruits Quinton Torbor of Destrehan High School in Louisiana and Kyziah Pruitt from Noxubee County High School.
Mississippi State now has 21 commitments from their 2019 recruiting class.
