The Bulldogs look to avenge last year’s buzzer beating heartbreaker, as this year’s team has all pieces necessary.

Can this be the year? That has been the question in Stark Vegas throughout this offseason. Having lost their core four of seniors in Blair Schaefer, Victoria Vivians, Roshunda Johnson, and Morgan William, Mississippi State was thought to have taken a step back. However, they may have taken a step forward leading up to tonight, as these Bulldogs have plenty of depth and talent on their roster.

Head coach Vic Schaefer, one of the game’s best minds preaches defense, toughness, and leadership, all of which will be on full display. Highlighted by senior forward Teaira McCowan, arguably the best in the country, Mississippi State has an opportunity to make another championship run. While her experience and fervor are sure to show up, McCowan must emerge as a leader, as her previous season speaks volumes.

That said, the rich got richer. The Bulldogs added fellow center Anriel Howard, a transfer from Texas A&M. In what will be the league’s best front court, Howard and McCowan will put up numbers and rule the paint.

Also seniors are guards Jazzmun Holmes and Jordan Danberry who were spark plugs all year long in 2017-18. Look for her to them to get more minutes and be relied on heavily. Both have come up big when called upon and are selfless on the court, as Holmes and Danberry excel on the defensive end.

Surrounded with hype has been Myah Taylor, who is sure to live up to expectations. Her quickness and vision is unrivaled, as she is likely to earn a starting role. The five star Mississippi native from Olive Branch is a bonafide scorer with the skillset of a modern day point guard. Look for Taylor to make an immediate impact.

Moreover, the entire roster is one of Schaefer’s best. Mississippi State is sure to light up the Hump and Stark Vegas in primetime, ultimately set to put on a show. Get ready for an amazing season with plenty to look forward to, as it starts tonight vs Southeast Missouri State. Hail State!
