Vann Stuedeman and Mississippi State softball are now 3-0 on the young season thanks to a 5-0 victory over Missouri State today. Senior pitcher Holly Ward had a commanding performance to improve her record to 2-0 after her perfect game on Friday.
The battle between Mississippi State and Missouri State was a featuring of strong pitching and fielding up until the 5th inning when Mia Davidson hit a two run homer over the right field wall bringing herself and Kat Moore who had hit a double earlier the inning. With the 2-0 lead, Morgan Bell tried to follow Davidson’s lead and hit a double off of the right field wall scoring Reggie Harrison. After Stuedeman brought in Maddie Dorsett to pinch run, Emily Heimberger hit a triple to advance MSU’s lead to 4-0.
State was able to add another run in the bottom of the 6th inning with Harrison’s foul out to left field, giving Bevia Robinson enough time to score an unearned run from 3rd base. MSU was able to close out the game with the 5-0 lead.
In her second start of the season, pitcher Holly Ward didn’t quite have the perfect performance that she did on Friday, but she still controlled the game with little issue. In a complete game shutout effort, Ward threw to 28 batters, striking out 7 of them and walking 4.
Mississippi State is set to close out the weekend with a matchup against Mississippi Valley State University, a team that MSU beat 10-0 in 5 innings on Friday.
