Mississippi State (4-0) runs through Mississippi Valley State University (0-4) yet again as the Bulldogs win 8-0 in 6 innings. MSU beat MVSU on Friday 10-0 in 5 innings.
The scoring for Mississippi State started in the second inning with a Bevia Robinson single to center, scoring O’Neil Roberson. Maddie Dorsett then came in with a ground out RBI that would bring Emily Heimberger home to score an unearned run giving MSU a 2-0 lead.
The Bulldogs added to that in the 4th with another Robinson RBI single, this time scoring Heimberger to stretch the lead to 3-0. In the 5th inning, Kat Moore a home run to right field was followed by a Morgan Bell three run homer into the trees beyond left field, scoring Sarai Niu and Mia Davidson.
With a 7-0 lead in the 6th inning, freshman Macey Petrey hit a ground out RBI to score Kat Moore who was running for Lexi Malone.
When it came to pitching, it was a pair of newcomers that held MVSU off the board. In the first appearance of her career, freshman pitcher Emily Williams had a strong showing. In 4.0 innings, Williams earned the win by striking out 7 of the 13 batters she faced while only allowing 1 hit. Sophomore transfer Candace Denis came in and threw 2.0 innings to finish out the game, striking out 2 in the process.
Mississippi State’s next game is February 15th against the University of Tennessee at Martin.
