Joe Moorhead’s coaching staff in Starkville is officially complete. Former South Alabama head coach Joey Jones is coming to Mississippi State to be the coach of the Bulldogs’ special teams units.
From the Starkville Daily News’ Joel Coleman:
Able to confirm former South Alabama head coach Joey Jones will be Mississippi State’s new special teams coordinator. Joe Moorhead’s staff is complete once again.

Jones, as was previously mentioned, was the head coach in Mobile, Alabama and led the Jaguars to a 52-50 record while he was there. Most Mississippi State fans probably remember (or not depending on if you blocked the horrible memory out) Jones leading South Alabama to a 21-20 victory over Mississippi State back in 2016.
Among many other things that went horribly wrong that day, one significant reason why South Alabama and Jones came away victorious was botched field goal kicking. Now, Joey Jones is making his return to Starkville in hopes of preventing missed field goals.
Jones is one of three other former head coaches coming to Starkville to be an assistant coach joining Mark Hudspeth from Louisiana Lafayette and Andrew Breiner from Fordham.
