As the Mississippi State softball team continues to play in the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, Vann Stuedeman’s team takes another win from another ranked team. After the Bulldogs run ruled #23 Nebraska 9-0 yesterday, MSU defeated #16 Oklahoma State 9-4 today.
The Bulldogs fell behind early, allowing Oklahoma State to take a 3-0 lead after two innings of play. However, Mississippi State wan’t fazed by the deficit to their ranked opponent and quickly mounted a comeback.
A Reggie Harrison single got MSU on the board in the 3rd, bringing Bevia Robinson home. Sarai Niu would follow that up with a double, scoring another run. A pair of singles from Olivia Roberson and Emily Heimberger would give Mississippi State a 4-3 lead through 3 innings.
Bevia Robinson added to that total an inning later with a solo home run, pushing MSU’s lead to 5-3. Sarai Niu hit another RBI double, this time bringing home two more runs to bring the Bulldogs to a 7-3 lead. Oklahoma State would claw back a little bit though, cutting the lead to 7-4 with a run thanks to an error in the 4th, but that’s as close as they would get. A couple of singles by Robingson and Kat Moore in the 5th would give Mississippi State the 9-4 win.
Emily Williams earned the start for MSU, but the freshman only threw for 1.1 innings. Holly Ward would relieve her and finish out the game, striking out 10 and only surrendering 1 run.
