Rowdey Jordan’s grand slam in the bottom of sixth inning led the Diamond Dawgs (8-5) to a 6-0 win over the New Mexico State Aggies (8-6).
MSU took a 1-0 lead after Elijah MacNamee drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs. Jordan then blasted his grand slam to give them a 5-0 lead.
In the seventh inning, Justin Foscue walked and then advanced on a Josh Hatcher single. He later scored on a wild pitch to give the Diamond Dawgs one more run, and a 6-0 lead.
Mississippi State had 10 hits on the evening, which was led by two hits apiece from Hatcher, Luke Alexander and Jake Mangum.
Pitching was once again a strong suit for the Diamond Dawgs, as Zach Neff, Keegan James and Riley Self combined for just two hits in the shutout victory.
Neff (1-2) was credited with the win. He pitched six innings, allowing no runs on one hit. He struck out eight batters. James pitched two shutout innings, and Self pitched one inning.
Alex Pinedo (0-1) was charged with the loss for the Aggies. He pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four unearned runs. He struck out six batters.
The win gives MSU a winning streak of five games. The Diamond Dawgs will continue, and conclude its five-game home stand with a three-game series against Utah Valley. First pitch of the series between the Diamond Dawgs and Wolverines is set for Friday at 6:30 p.m. CT.
