The weather in Starkville has prompted adjustments to the three-game series between Mississippi State (8-5) and Utah Valley (4-7) at Dudy Noble Field.
With rain in the forecast for Saturday, the Diamond Dawgs and Wolverines will now play a doubleheader today with game one beginning at 3 p.m. CT. The second game of the day will begin 45 minutes following the conclusion of game one. Both of today’s games will be nine-innings. The series is set to conclude on Sunday with a 1 p.m. CT start, as originally scheduled.
MSU is coming in with a five-game winning streak, which has been fueled by a combination great pitching and offense. A key note, in all eight of MSU’s wins thus far, opponents have been held to four runs or less.
The Wolverines dropped three of four at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last weekend, a team that MSU fell to 6-3 on Feb. 25 in the Kleberg Bank College Classic.
PROBABLE STARTERS
MSU’s Konnor Pilkington (1-1, 1.69 ERA) is expected to get the nod on the mound for the first game today. Utah Valley’s expected starter is Jake Mayer (1-1, 3.00 ERA).
MSU’s Ethan Small (1-1, 3.77 ERA) is expected to face Utah Valley’s Jackson Cofer (0-2, 3.77 ERA) in the second game today.
Sunday’s match is projected to showcase MSU’s Jacob Billingsley (1-0, 3.29 ERA) and Utah Valley’s Walker Ramsey (1-2, 10.61 ERA).
