STARKVILLE, Miss. – Coming off a huge Super Bulldog Weekend, sweeping No. 3 Arkansas, Mississippi State is riding the momentum and will battle it out in a non-conference game with in-state rival No. 6 Ole Miss for the annual Governor’s Cup tonight at Trustmark Park.
First pitch between the Diamond Dawgs (22-19, 8-10 SEC) and Rebels (32-9, 10-8 SEC) is scheduled for 6:02 p.m. CT on SEC Network.
MSU’s big weekend sweep of Arkansas came with a pair of big comeback wins. State came back from 5-0 deficit in game one and 3-0 in game three.
Ole Miss is coming in off of a two games to one series win over the Georgia Bulldogs.
State won the Southeastern Conference series against Ole Miss earlier this month when they won two games of the the three-game SEC series in Starkville. Jake Mangum was unbelievable in that series, which was highlighted when he went 5-for-5 in the series finale, including the game-tying hit in the 7-5 win.
MSU now has the opportunity to clinch the regular-season series against the Rebels with a win.
The Diamond Dawgs are also coming in having won the last two Governor’s Cup meetings in 2016 and 2017.
PROBABLE STARTERS
MSU RHP Denver McQuary (1-2, 4.88 ERA) vs. Ole Miss LHP Jordan Fowler (4-0, 3.43 ERA)
