With just under two weeks to go, the 2018 college football season is set to start with a bang. Being that the SEC is the nation’s best and most powerful conference, there will be marquee matchups from the start. Here are the top three to watch come opening day.
No. 1 Stephen F. Austin at Mississippi State
(Davis Wade Stadium, Starkville, MS)
Obviously we will start here. The Bulldogs open the season at home and are sure to put on a show for fans in and around Stark Vegas. Though it is likely to be a blowout, Mississippi State has an opportunity to start the season right.

As always, the crowd will not disappoint and Davis Wade will be rocking. The Bulldogs have been mentioned as contenders to win the SEC, and that is not far off, as coach Joe Moorhead and company have all the requisite weapons to exceed expectations. Since the Dak era, this Mississippi State team has ultimate promise.
No. 2 Auburn vs Washington
(Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta, GA)
One of the games of the year. These two teams have been mentioned right next to one another in the pre rankings and rightfully so. The game will be played in Atlanta, resulting in an Auburn heavy crowd, as the Huskies will be tested. In addition, two Heisman contenders in Tiger quarterback Jarrett Stidham and Husky running back Myles Gaskin.

This contest has been surrounded by hype since it was put on the schedule, as it would be no surprise if ESPN College Gameday shows up in Atlanta. Look for one of these teams to make a statement and perhaps a case for the Playoff come the end of the season. It will be special and a definite treat.
No. 3 LSU vs Miami
(AT&T Stadium, Arlington, TX)
The turnover chain meets the Bayou Bengals at “Jerry World”. Does it get any better than that? Come on now. Both teams have promise heading into 2018 and what a way to start it off. The Canes and Tigers are projected to shine defensively and both college football icons.

They say that sports are better when certain teams are relevant and that applies to college football, as these two historic franchises bring it all. Whether it be NFL talent, the legendary, or the strongest of fanbases, LSU vs Miami is fit for the brightest stage.
Overall, the SEC will showcase some of opening day’s most intriguing contests and make a tremendous impact. As for the talent this season, is there even a discussion. Through the East and West, there is at least one superstar at every position.
The stadiums will be buzzing and the headlines will be dictated by the game’s most decorated conference. And as for Mississippi State, get ready for a Bulldog explanation. Yes, the Bulldogs have a strong chance to win the SEC and it starts September 1. HAIL STATE!
