Finally, the much anticipated “Moorhead era” has begun and the maroon and white are set to make a statement. Mississippi State has been overlooked this offseason, as their new hire may just elevate the Bulldogs a level higher. Coming from the Big Ten, the former offensive coordinator knows a thing or two, especially about the running game. Look for a lethal attack starting tonight.
While there has been a new level of energy in and around Starkville, Mississippi State has not gotten that much attention nationwide. That said, Moorhead could not care less about the spotlight. His eyes are on the ultimate prize and taking it one game at a time.
Tonight’s game will also be under the lights. A time in which one of the game’s most underrated crowds never fails to amaze. Davis Wade Stadium will be a madhouse and likely run the Lumberjacks out of the building.
It is important to hit the ground running and make a statement in the first game. We saw it last night in Madison, as Wisconsin trounced Western Kentucky. But in order to be taken seriously as a contender, the Bulldogs cannot afford to put forth a performance comparable to Michigan State’s nail biting victory over Utah State.
Moorhead is the rare combination of a player’s coach and a no nonsense workaholic. The players trust him and the risks he will take, primarily on offense. The Mississippi State faithful expect big things tonight and Moorhead knows it. The cowbells will be at their loudest and the atmosphere will be electric.
Get pumped Bulldog fans. The Moorhead era is here and this season will be one to remember. “I’ve got a fever” You do the rest. Hail State!
