Moorhead rudely welcomed to SEC play

Kentucky has a good solid team, let's just go ahead and get that out of the way. However, they aren't nearly as good as we made them look Saturday night. The offensive tackles were horrible, but it was matched by the lack of adjustments made to help them. We could have called any number of plays like screens, jet sweeps, etc to counteract their aggressiveness, but we kept going back to the same dropback passes. And I'm really bothered by the fact that we abandoned the running game so quickly. I know they were getting low output, but try something different, you know, like running toward where the pressure came from. If they blitz, make them pay. That is what offensive geniuses do, right? Whenever we would over-rush/pursue Wilson, he'd be 25 yards downfield before he saw the first white jersey. So, my question is: why weren't we doing that?

Defense with no support from the offense will eventually cave. You can't expect them to come out time and time again and bail you out. The main thing I would like to say to the defense is: 1) Stay off Twitter, and 2) Stay away from your press clippings. They walked in thinking they would intimidate Kentucky and they would eventually fold, but the only problem was, Kentucky was having no part of it. The officials made some of what I would consider very questionable calls, but I think a lot of that was brought on by the skirmish at the beginning of the game. At that point the Kentucky kids knew they were already in our heads, and all they had to do we turn up the pressure and we'd blow it. And did we ever.

Ok, so Moorhead has lost his 1st SEC game. We were hoping for better, but that's not how it turned out. Mullen lost his first one, Croom lost his first one, Jackie Wayne, the Kang, lost his first one. There are many corrections to be made this week. Players have got to focus and stay within themselves. Play with emotion, but don't let it get out of control. Coaches have got to MAKE FREAKING ADJUSTMENTS and not give up on any aspect of the game. As bad as this past weekend looked, we're willing to look back on it and laugh later, IF and ONLY IF there is some noticeable improvement this week. Losing will happen, but losing the way we did against Kentucky should never happen. Redeem yourselves: Moorhead, Shoop, Johnson, Offensive Tackles, Defensive Tackles, Defensive Backs. We want to believe in you; give us a reason to believe!
