NASHVILLE, Tenn. — No. 24 Mississippi State men’s basketball team had a good defensive night as the Bulldogs came away with 71-55 victory over the Vanderbilt Commodores on Saturday night at Memorial Gymnasium.
With the win the Bulldogs improve to 14-3 (2-2 SEC), while the Commodores fall to 9-8 (0-5 SEC).
The Bulldogs never trailed in the game and limited Vanderbilt to just 36.7 percent shooting while also forcing 14 turnovers in the ballgame. MSU scored 18 points off turnovers.
Quinndary Weatherspoon lead all scorers with 17 points on 6-12 shooting and 5-of-7 on free throws. He also had eight rebounds and four assists in the contest. Aric Holman and Tyson Carter also turned in double-digit scoring nights with ten points apiece.
Robert Woodard II had his career-best scoring night with nine points on the night. He also compiled four rebounds and two assists.
MSU out-rebounded Vanderbilt 40-30 in the contest, with Holman grabbing a team-leading nine rebounds.
The Bulldogs will be back in action Tuesday when they travel to Lexington, Ky. to face No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats (14-3, 4-1 SEC). Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. CT at Rupp Arena. The game will be televised by ESPN and available online through WatchESPN.
