While he has been a force on the line, senior defensive end Chauncey Rivers must take things up a notch after Mississippi State’s bye week, as the Bulldogs will be heading to Knoxville, Tennessee next week.
Though the Volunteers are not the Bulldogs’ toughest test, Mississippi State must take advantage of this bye to get back on track. While Rivers’ leadership and experience is widely apparent, his numbers are in need of a spike. With 15 total tackles, 10 solo, a sack, and a pass broken up, expect Rivers to have a bigger impact against Tennessee and beyond.

As defensive line play is an integral component to success in today’s Southeastern Conference, look for Rivers to take control and become more comfortable in his role. Set to face quarterbacks by the likes of Joe Burrow and Tua Tagovailoa, Rivers will be heavily relied upon to set the defensive tone.
Rivers should make the necessary adjustments throughout the bye week. Coming off a disappointing loss to Auburn, Mississippi State is sure to take out its frustration on Tennessee, with Rivers at the forefront. Expect him to have his way.
Hail State!
