Mississippi State Finishes Third at Myrtle Beach Invitational

Bulldogs improve to 6-1.

CONWAY, S.C. — The Mississippi State men’s basketball team finished third at the Myrtle Beach Invitational after topping tournament host Coastal Carolina, 81-56, during Sunday’s third place game inside HTC Center.

A trio of Bulldogs finished with double figures with senior guard Tyson Carter leading the way with 19 points on 6-of-12 shooting. He also dished out a team-high 10 assists for his second double-double of the season. Sophomore forward Reggie Perry scored 16 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Freshman guard D.J. Stewart Jr. added 11 points.

Sophomore guard Robert Woodard II continues to be a spark as he finished with eight points and a team-high 10 rebounds.

As a unit, MSU shot an 29-of-55 (52.7%) from the field and 10-of-23 (43.5%) from 3-point range.

The Bulldog defense held Coastal Carolina to 19-of-54 (35.2%) from the field and 3-of-16 (18.8%) from beyond the arc. MSU held a 36-31 rebounding advantage.

The Bulldogs held a 10-5 lead at the first media timeout with 16:26 left in the opening half. State would take a double-digit lead after a Perry jumper made it 20-9 with 12:01 left in the half.

The Bulldogs led by 10-plus the rest of the half as they held an 18-point lead at 41-23 heading to the halftime break.

The Chanticleers worked their way back within 11 points at 47-36 with 11:21 left in the game. The Bulldogs then used a 9-0 to extend their lead to 56-36 with 8:55 to go.

State’s biggest lead of 31 points came with 55 second left when the Bulldogs took an 81-50 lead. MSU went on to win 81-56.

Mississippi State will be back in action Thursday, Dec. 5, when the Bulldogs host Louisiana Tech at Humphrey Coliseum. Tip time is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT. The game can be streamed on SEC Network+ via the WatchESPN app.
