Good afternoon, Stark Vegas! This past weekend was packed with sports, ranging from track and field to basketball. Let’s get you up to speed with how State did this past weekend.
Softball starts season
The Lady Bulldogs got started this past weekend, playing five games in three days. State defeated Middle Tennessee State 8-2 to open the season, beat Stephen F. Austin 3-0 and Valparaiso 8-3 and 10-0 after that, then lost to SFA 1-0 to close out the Bulldog Kickoff Classic.
Men’s Tennis keeps rolling
Men’s tennis defeated Texas Tech 4-2 and Tulane 4-1. MSU is now 6-0 in the season and will now compete in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
Women’s Tennis goes undefeated in weekend matches
MSU rolled past Alabama State in a double-header match, winning 7-0 and 4-0, respectively. Then, on Sunday, they defeated UAB 6-1. The Lady Bulldogs are now 7-2 on the year.
Men’s Basketball falls to Kentucky
A second-half comeback wasn’t enough to knock off the high-flying Wildcats, having the Bulldogs fall 71-67. PJ Washington was huge for UK, scoring 23 points. Lamar Peters and Quinndary Weatherspoon were the only double-digit scorers for State. MSU will face Alabama on Tuesday in a game that carries NCAA tournament implications.
Women’s Basketball defeats Tennessee
Teaira McCowan’s 24 points and 15 rebounds helped the Lady Bulldogs race past the Lady Vols 91-63. Four other players scored 13 or more points, helping State move to 22-1 on the season.
Have a good day and Hail State!
