Records and Rankings

Mississippi State:

  • Record: 26-2 overall, 14-1 SEC
  • Rankings: No. 5 AP/ No. 5 Coaches

South Carolina:

  • Record: 21-7 overall, 13-2 SEC
  • Rankings: No. 14 AP / No. 15 Coaches

What to Watch For

Teaira McCowan and Anriel Howard in the paint.

McCoward and Howard are one of the country’s best dynamic duos and have been consistent throughout the season. While McCowan can handle the paint, Howard is the perfect compliment and can also hit from distance. McCowan is averaging a double-double with 17.3 points and 13.3 rebounds. Howard is averaging 16 points and 8.2 rebounds, not far behind McCowan.

Both are reliable and can lead. That said, they will have to get going early, as South Carolina and their crowd will take advantage of every opportunity. Expect Howard to lead the team offensively in points and McCowan to crash the boards from opening tip.

Jordan Danberry and Jazzmun Holmes changing the game

Danberry and Holmes, a formidable backcourt continue to show up in big moments. While Danberry has shown up as a scorer and Holmes a facilitator, both have also proven to make game changing plays on defense. Look for Danberry and/or Holmes to come up with a couple of steals late.

In Thursday’s home matchup against LSU, Danberry posted 18 points and four steals, proving yet again that she can get it done on both ends of the floor. Holmes, who has a career high 149 assists on the year is sure to create opportunities for Danberry, as both should fill the stat line. It will be up to both seniors to set the tone, as they have gone from unsung heroes to reliable weapons.

Prediction

Mississippi State wins a close one 79-71
